Patterned Painting

For this painting, I thought it'd be fun to create a pattern in the background before I started. I've been making my own stamps, so that's where I began. I used Distress Ink to stamp with because I like the idea of creating neutral outlines to paint in, on, or around. I thrive with boundaries like this. I know that sounds counter-artistic, but it's something that works  well for me. This is going to be fun!

What have you up to lately?

  1. Wow Catherine...I love your stamps. Never really considered carving my own until now. I like to use stamps in my paintings, but when I use a store-bought pattern it doesn't seem like the work is entirely my own.

    1. That's always how I've felt too, which is what led me to design some of my own. It's really addicting once you get in the "groove" of it. ;)

  2. Cool. I've started an art journal recently and I can definitely see carving some of my own stamps for some of the pages.

  6. Those stamps are wonderful. I have what I need to carve some - now I just need to do it. It's a great background and I love that the background (which may not be very visible when you are done) has a pattern to it. HPPF

    1. It's really fun once you get the hang of it! You're right, it may not be very visible in the end, but I love having it there. :)
