I've been working on some patterned papers for my backgrounds. I always struggle with using scrapbook papers or other licensed work in my backgrounds because I don't know how much usage is an infringement. I've heard so many sides, it's hard to know what amount (if any) is legal. So I decided to start making my own. It's been a fun doodling project and a bit of a breather between projects. It's not perfect, but I'm usually painting over it anyways. I love the layers.
Also, I'm guest posting over at Bliss Habits and giving away the print Love Is Owl You Need. Check that out here!
What a great idea- to just make your own! Love the colors and variety in it. Love your Owl painting!
ReplyDeleteColoring them was exhilarating. I felt like a child with crayons!
DeleteI love the idea of making your own papers. I've been doing that some, too. They certainly don't have to be perfect, and they will add so much interest to your work!
ReplyDeleteI love the imperfections; gives it that homemade feel. :)
DeleteAlways a pleasure seeing your newest creations, Catherine! Love your colors and patterns!

ReplyDeleteAww, thanks Netty. :)
DeleteHi Catherine. How nice that you answer your comments. Sometimes it's hard to do. I thinks it's great that you are making your own papers. They look awesome! Yes, we do worry about infringement. I do. Even when I am cutting out picture from magazines and pasting, I wonder if I can actually use them in my works?? Anyway, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYeah the infringement thing always sits in the back of my mind. I probably need to seek out a lawyer that would truly know and find out for sure. But for now, trying not to take chances. Hope you have a great weekend too!
DeleteLovely background and sweet owly Love!

ReplyDeleteYes, the copyright things is confusing and I'd rather not be liable. Thanks for the sweet thoughts. :)

DeleteLove is Owl you need is such a fun drawing...I drew a face with an owl hat a long time ago...yours is so much sweeter. : )
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks. I've actually wanted one of those owl hats but I think I may be too advanced in the age department to get away with it. :)
DeleteThat's a great idea to make your own backgrounds. My sister knew a gal who made and sold her own scrapbook paper...you could totally do that...with all your pretty, bright colors and designs. Great work!
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool idea, Kristin! I hadn't thought to check Etsy for handmade papers.
